11 Months Old

Rosie was 11 months old last Friday. She's more and more interested in being independent, but still keeps her mom and dad close by.  She likes to play with new people-- especially if Mom or Dad is holding her at the same time.  And she really wants to eat by herself.
Well, truth be told, it depends what she's eating...
Recent accomplishments:  First word alert???  We think we have heard some purposeful use of "Da-da!"  She clearly understands some words, too, e.g. "cat," "no," "banana," "milk", etc.  Excitingly, she also understands some Mandarin words including her two favorites, "cat" and "light."  Rose has also learned to point with her index finger and loves to show us things she's interested in.  In fact, she has made up a word, "Duh!", to indicate things she's excited about.  Birds are "Duh!"  The cats are most certainly "Duh!"
Favorite activities:  Rose is getting better at "reading" books-- that is, turning pages with us and not just chewing on them.  She especially loves books with flaps.  She can now crawl faster than our usual walking pace, and she continues to cruise around holding onto the walls, cabinets or furniture.  Rosie is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to climbing.  If we leave the ottoman too close to the couch, she uses it to push her self up onto the couch.  She also managed to get onto a chair at Great Aunt Diane's house, and she likes to go up stairs.  We have to watch her like a hawk.
Teeth:  Rosie now has 4 teeth on top and 2 on the bottom.  She's not too keen on letting us brush her teeth though, even with the fruit-flavored toddler toothpaste.
